Founder of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
"The Original Gracie"
Carlos Gracie Sr was the first Gracie to learn from Mitsuyo Maeda and the visionary who established the Gracie Academy. He transformed Japanese jujitsu into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, creating a martial art dynasty that would spread across the globe. His entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to proving the effectiveness of his art laid the foundation for modern BJJ.
Carlos believed that Jiu-Jitsu was more than just fighting—it was a complete lifestyle. He developed the Gracie Diet and emphasized that physical, mental, and spiritual balance were essential for true mastery. His philosophy centered on using intelligence and technique to overcome any opponent, regardless of size or strength.
